Introduction to Rubber Melt Gear Pump and the Important Role of Gears

Rubber melt gear pumps are mainly used in rubber extrusion molding. Similar to plastic melt gear pumps, rubber melt gear pumps have a wide range of applications due to their hard working characteristics and strong adaptability to different types of rubber materials, machine head resistance, and operating conditions. They have obvious advantages in precision extrusion molding, rubber filtration processes, and rolling feeding, and have become a new hot topic in the international rubber and thermoplastic elastomer processing field, attracting widespread attention from industry insiders. Related research has shown that rubber gear pump extruders can be applied to the filtration, preheating, plasticization, and molding of rubber, providing extrusion and feeding to rolling machines. They are matched with hot feed extruders, cold feed extruders, and cold feed exhaust extruders for the composite extrusion, transportation, traction belts, flat products, rubber pipes, rubber strips, inner tubes, wires and cables, as well as the encapsulation of rubber rollers and the filling of high capacity molds.

Gears are a crucial part of gear pumps. Gears are divided into three types according to tooth direction: straight teeth, helical teeth, and herringbone teeth. Compared with spur gears, helical gears have an increased degree of overlap in gear meshing, which allows for continuous and stable compression of materials during meshing, reducing pressure fluctuations. At the same time, due to its self-cleaning effect during rotation, they can maintain the cleanliness of the tooth root and avoid material deposition and decomposition. However, axial force will be generated during operation, affecting the service life of bearings and intensifying the shear of the melt in the tooth side gap. Therefore, the bevel angle should not be too large. Straight gears generate balanced bearing loads during operation and have low processing costs. Its main drawback is the large amplitude of pressure fluctuations. The herringbone gear can achieve relatively stable extrusion while balancing axial force, and has the advantages of both helical and spur gears. However, the herringbone gear is prone to material retention at the tooth root and has high processing costs.

In polymer melt gear pumps, "D" type sliding bearings are mostly used because the sliding bearings have a simple structure, easy installation, low working noise, and good impact resistance. Moreover, polymers themselves are excellent lubricants that can form a good dynamic lubrication film and withstand considerable loads on the gear shaft.
